Welding Procedure Qualification Record — WPQR

Introduction to Welding Procedure Qualification

WPQR (Welding Procedure Qualification Record) refers to the test process and result evaluation used to verify the rationality and feasibility of the formulated welding procedure.

Purposes of Welding Procedure Qualification

  • 01

    Assess whether the manufacturer is capable of producing welded joints that comply with national, industrial and technical specification requirements;

  • 02

    Verify the correctness of the formulated Welding Procedure Specification (WPS / pWPS).

  • 03

    Ensure stable welding quality and provide valid technical evidence for factory quality control.

Scope of EU Welding Procedure Qualification

  • 01Application Industry

    Applicable to the manufacturing, installation and maintenance of boilers, pressure vessels, pressure pipelines, bridges, ships, aerospace equipment, nuclear facilities and load-bearing steel structures;

  • 02Welding Methods

    Applicable to gas welding, MMA welding, TIG welding, MIG/MAG welding, submerged arc welding, plasma welding, electroslag welding, stud welding, laser welding, resistance welding and other processes.

Welding Procedure Qualification Process

1. Formulate pWPS (Preliminary Welding Procedure Specification);

2. Weld test pieces and prepare test samples;

3. Conduct inspection and testing on test pieces;

4. Verify whether welded joints meet the required service performance;

5. Issue the WPQR report to approve and confirm the welding procedure specification.
