Lift Certification | Directive: 2014/33/EU
Within the EU, all passenger lifts and safety components must bear CE marking and EU Declaration of Conformity before being placed on the market. CE marking is permitted only after compliance assessment and CE certification issued by an EU Notified Body in accordance with the EU Lift Directive. The conformity assessment covers complete lifts and all safety-related components.
In 2014, the EU issued the latest Lift Directive 2014/33/EU together with updated harmonized standards EN 81-20 and EN 81-50. The new directive entered into force on April 20, 2016, replacing the old Directive 95/16/EC. The new standards EN 81-20 and EN 81-50 became mandatory in September 2017, superseding EN 81-1 and EN 81-2. The Lift Directive governs EU safety regulations for lifts, requiring authorized bodies to conduct EU conformity evaluation for vertical lifts and safety components.
