What is US FCC Certification?

FCC is the abbreviation of the Federal Communications Commission. FCC certification is a mandatory EMC requirement for the United States, covering electronic and electrical products within the frequency range of 9K–3000GHz, focusing on radio frequency interference in communications and related fields. Regulated products include AV equipment, IT products, radio devices, microwave ovens and more.

Most radio frequency devices, communication products and digital products require FCC approval for access to the US market. The FCC evaluates product safety at all stages to ensure effective risk control, and also conducts testing for radio equipment and aviation devices. Enterprises may complete FCC certification through qualified third-party testing agencies.

Three Types of FCC Compliance

  • 011. FCC Verification

Manufacturers or importers shall complete required testing at an FCC-recognized laboratory to ensure compliance with technical standards and retain test reports. The FCC reserves the right to request product samples and test data.

  • 022. FCC SDoC (Supplier’s Declaration of Conformity)

The responsible party (manufacturer or importer) shall conduct product testing at an FCC-qualified laboratory to meet relevant technical requirements and keep test records. After passing the test, the product may affix the FCC mark with a valid declaration and test report.

  • 033. FCC Certification

Products must be tested by an FCC-registered laboratory. After obtaining test reports, technical documents such as product photos, circuit diagrams, block diagrams and user manuals shall be reviewed by an FCC-authorized TCB body. Upon approval, the official certificate will be issued and the applicant is authorized to use a unique FCC ID.

First-time applicants must apply for a GC Company Registration Number from the FCC. After testing and certification, the unique FCC ID shall be marked on the product.

The United States remains one of China’s major trading partners with growing annual trade volume. US technical standards and import regulations are highly stringent. Understanding local market access rules helps Chinese enterprises expand North American exports steadily.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulates the import and use of radio frequency devices, including computers, fax machines, electronic appliances, radio transceivers, remote-controlled products, telephones and consumer electronics. All such products sold in the USA must be tested and approved by FCC-authorized laboratories. Importers and customs brokers are required to declare FCC compliance for all radio frequency equipment.
