EMC Electromagnetic Compatibility Certification

On April 18, 2014, the EU issued the new EMC Directive 2014/30/EU, fully enforced from April 20, 2016,
replacing the old 2004/108/EC to adapt to the New Legislative Framework (NLF).

Definition of EMC

EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) means electromagnetic compatibility. As defined by IEC, it refers to the capability of equipment or systems to operate normally in electromagnetic environments without generating unacceptable electromagnetic interference to surrounding devices. The EMC CE certification requires all electrical and electronic products to limit electromagnetic emission within specified limits to avoid interference; meanwhile, products shall have sufficient anti-interference performance for stable operation, including:

  • 01EMI (Electromagnetic Interference)

    Unwanted interference signals generated during equipment operation, which may come from external environment or the device itself.

  • 02EMS (Electromagnetic Susceptibility)

    The capability of equipment to resist impacts from surrounding electromagnetic interference.

EMC Certification Process

Submit application form;

Submit technical documents: product introduction, user manual, technical drawings, key component BoM list, nameplate drawing, CE certificates or DoC of outsourced parts, etc.;

Sample testing: tests in line with EMC harmonized standards, including radiated emission, conducted interference, harmonic current, voltage fluctuation, ESD, radiation immunity, surge, EFT, voltage dip and other EMC test items;

After document review and qualified test results, our EU headquarters will issue the CE certificate for CE marking.

Common EMC Test Standards

  • 01 EMI Test Items:

    - CE (Conducted Emission): EN 55011

    - RE (Radiated Emission): EN 55011

  • 02 EMS Test Items:

    - CS (Conducted Susceptibility): EN 61000-4-6

    - RS (Radiated Susceptibility): EN 61000-4-3

    - ESD (Electrostatic Discharge): EN 61000-4-2

    - EFT/Burst: EN 61000-4-4

    - PFMF: EN 61000-4-8

    - Surge: EN 61000-4-5

    - Voltage Dip & Interruption: EN61000-4-11

Required EMC Technical Documents

  • 01Electrical Schematic

    (Mark wire gauge, motor power, fuse and circuit breaker parameters)

  • 02Control Panel Drawing

    (Component layout)

  • 03Cabinet internal wiring diagram and terminal layout
  • 04Electrical box internal layout drawing
  • 05Component List

    (Name, model, manufacturer, quantity and CE certification status)

  • 06User Manual

    (English version)

  • 07Product Difference List
  • 08Test Report
